Show on Saturday! Collage Publication! - Thursday, November 14, 2024
An exciting weekend awaits!
On Saturday, I have the opportunity to, once again, perform at Baby Rabiez, which is a lovely little record/pop culture store near here.
This is my second time playing at the store. The first was right after the mall pop-up shop concluded, and I played solo but amplified. It was fun. This time, Matt is joining me on drums and some backing vocals, and my son, Harvey, wants to sing some too. Great!
It’s perfect: a free afternoon, all-ages show in a small room with good vibes.
After we played the Outpost (RIP!) back in September, I got it in my head that we needed lights for our stage show, so I solved that problem like I solve so many—with a craft project. I’ve wrapped two mannequins in LED lights and I got a rack to hang the banner with the band’s name on it. See below.
This is hopefully ridiculous and fun. And just so that I don’t make this performance too easy, I’ve added virtual components to the in-store performance. At 2:00 pm SHARP, a virtual listening party will launch via Bandcamp. We’ll simultaneously play the album over the loudspeakers at the shop. You can listen with us live or online, and I’ll be on to chat with you about the album or whatever. When that wraps at about 2:30, we’ll play a set—14 songs in about 20 minutes—what value! You can see and feel it live in the store with us and the stage dressing and lights, or you can watch via Instagram. I’ll put the show flyers below the collage of the day.
Also, this week, two of my collages were included in the latest issue of Packingtown Review. This journal was launched at the University of Illinois at Chicago when I was there, and I contributed to the very first issue about 15 years ago. It’s really lovely to “come home” and have my art included in the current issue. Many thanks to the tireless editors of that publication!
